3.0 out of five stars Not matched with Health Vault, March 4, 2011
By Samuel Clemmens “SamC” (San Marcos, CA) See all my reviews () This review is from: Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white, big (Health and Beauty) This is a nice BP monitor but it isn’t matched with HealthVault because Omron hasn’t provided the needed device drivers. This is the major reason why I bought this model.

I tried using the other Omron driver for the HEM 790IT but it didn’t work.

This monitor is matched with the Omron health management software but this software isn’t good. On a 1900×1080 screen the software is 1/8 the size of the screen and cant be re sized. The software was clearly intended for Windows XP. In fact it makes you install Microsoft Net Framework one which has Windows seven compatibility issues. If you have a newer computer, you’ll be disappointed in this software.

I can not recommend this monitor to anybody till Omron comes up with HealthVault drivers. If they do, then it’s a pretty nice monitor.

4.0 out of five stars BP meters keep to get better . And more complex, April 10, 2011
By J. Peterson (Minnesota) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white, big (Health and Beauty)
Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () I have owned/used some number of other blood pressure meters over the years, as well as ones from Omron and LifeSource. The older units look pretty basic in comparison to this new Omron, which gives important more computerized functionality than the older units. But, this does come at the cost of greater complexity.

Good things about the new Omron:

“TruRead” mode, which automatically takes three sequential readings and averages them. I generally did this manually with my older units anyway because the readings could differ somewhat from time to time, but this one does it with one touch of a button, , then computes the average for you.

Cuff is nice: broad and inflexible, which I find much easier to apply.

Automatically establishes if you applied the cuff properly.

Like a dozen other things I own these days, this unit can connect to my computer via USB, which luckily is by the common “mini” USB connector and not the less common “micro” USB connector, which means that you may use the same USB cord as you use for many other devices.

Things that may or may not be good:

It’s set up to manage two regular users, via an A/B slide switch. This really is only useful if you have two people who both use the same unit on a regular base, and they both want to have the unit keep track of averages or download readings to a computer. Of course, you must remember to set the switch in the right position for you so you do not get mixed up, which could destroy the value of any history.

You may be able to connect it to your Windows computer as mentioned above, supposedly to connect to Microsoft Health Vault (which I didn’t attempt who wants to upload their personal info to something run by Microsoft?) or to Omron’s Health Management software package which you may be able to download and run privately on your Windows PC. I did attempt out the latter, which does let you to upload stored readings to your computer for graphing of historical trends. I find this only marginally useful if at all I do keep my own log in Excel, where I may also add notes, add other data, and examine and graph it myself all without having to plug it in to my computer. I did experience many difficulty uploading, where it wasn’t evident what to do to begin the upload after connecting the unit to my computer.

Things that aren’t so good:

It has different computational abilities like a memory, capability to keep history for morning & evening readings, etc. I suppose this could supply many value to those who are tech oriented and could value the extra info, but I find that it just adds needless complexity to the device with little use to me. I found it hard to figure out how to make this work, after (re)reading the instruction manual some number of times. Anything that requires you to keep the instruction manual useful flunks my usability test, and probably won’t be used by 98 of most users. Factoid to offer contrast: My old LifeSource unit had just one button, my old Omron had just 2, while this unit has seven buttons.

Overall, I like the unit because it’s a useful improvement over my older devices, especially caused by the useful TruRead feature. It does supply PC connectivity and more computational features that older units too, but not everyone will find those potential useful, and they do increase the complexity of the unit.

4.0 out of five stars Omron ten Series+ (BP791IT), March 14, 2011
By Jimmy Roberts “kathyzjim” (Ogden,UT) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white, big (Health and Beauty) This monitor isn’t matched with Microsoft Health Vault. I contacted Omron about this issue, and Omron says they don’t have a driver for MHV, and don’t expect to have it any time soon. After a lengthy discussion about Omron falsly marketing a product, stating that it’s matched with MHV, Omron simply fell to offer any info about when a driver will be published. Omron isn’t remotely worried about this discrepancy. Needless to I filed a buyer protection complaint, then a complaint through the FCC and the FTC for misrepresentation. I am sure those complaints will supply those agencies with sleeping materials. I give this product two stars, for Omron’s intentional misrepresentation.

5.0 out of five stars Super Easy to Use!, March 14, 2011
By Ryan See all my reviews () This review is from: Omron BP742 five Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, White, Medium (Health and Beauty) since my husband came home from the doc after being told to watch his blood pressure, we have been using this monitor. It is SUPER easy to use, it is fast, it is convenient and it is correct. I took it with to the doctor and tested them side by side both this machine and the doctor’s came up with the same reading.

I love that it is so compact too. When it is not used, I put it in the included bag and tuck it into the buffet in my dining room.

I’d recommend this cuff to anyone!

1.0 out of five stars choose the seven Series!, September 20, 2011
By Janet Schanzer See all my reviews () This review is from: Omron BP742 five Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, White, Medium (Health and Beauty) I chose the Omron742 five series caused by many reviewers’ difficulty in using the seven series cuff. When it arrived, I found this monitor easy to use, but my blood pressure readings were all over the place, from normal to “Call the doctor” readings, all inside minutes of each other. After some days of wondering if I were in need of medication, I brought the monitor with me to my chiropractor appointment. My pressure was 18 points lower using her manual monitor. The monitor was easy to return, and paid the postage since the monitor was faulty. I decided to replace it with an Omron seven Series, since my chiropractor guaranteed me that her mother had one, and the cuff was easy to use. I bought it locally at Costco for only some dollars more than the five Series. It was easy to use the cuff, and the readings have been correct. I guess the moral of the story is to generally bring new monitors to one’s next medical appointment to check the accuracy.

Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () I already own an older Omiron BP cuff (the original Omiron HEM 711), so I was happy to get this one to compare with it. This cuff fixes many big faults with the older one, but introduces some of its own:

Pros:

Unlike the original variant, the readout displays your blood pressure and pulse simultaneously, and holds the display long enough for the numbers to be read and written down.

Better, the display has a memory function you may be able to scroll back through older readings, as well as a time and date stamp. More, the memory function can accommodate two different users.

There’s a function to detect an irregular heartbeat, and to average some number of pressures, and many other bells and whistles.

The unit comes with batteries (but this can be because it will not work with rechargeables, and they were tired of to get returns).

There’s a little zippered bag to keep everything in.

Cons:

My old unit had clear and understandable information written on the cuff itself, and a green bit on the edge to show you where to place the cuff relative to your artery. The new one has information on the cuff, but they are considerably less clear, and you’ll really have to read the manual. I am not sure why they did not keep the older and better design yes, it saves some cents in manufacturing, but the newer unit is considerably less user friendly.

The old unit had an on/off button, and a start button, and that is all. The new one has more bells and whistles, but has done away with the on/off to turn the thing on, you press “Start/stop”, then you must press it again to begin the cuff inflation. I understand why you must press twice (to give you the chance to choose which memory file to store the data in), but again this is just a bit confusing. How much could another button have cost?

The older unit came in a tough, compact cardboard box, which I’m still using to store it. The new one is packaged more for display than storage the box is flimsy and big, with a non recyclable plastic put to keep everything arranged prettily. To mitigate, they give you a zippered bag to store it. (How about a tough little polypropylene box, with a paper label that may be peeled off after the device is purchased? Best of both worlds).

Since I now have two machines, and since I am that kind of person, I decided to take my readings at the same time in both arms (carefully using the manual’s directions for a right arm read, which are somewhat different from the default left). Both arms were at the same level, and completely relaxed. My pulse was same, but my systolic was different by eight points, and my diastolic was different by three. This is not a deadly margin of error, but worth noting.

5.0 out of five stars Super easy, convenient and it is accurate!, July 14, 2011
By Cynthia E. Downes “Cindy Downes” (Broken Arrow, OK, USA) See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME) This review is from: Withings BP 800 Blood Pressure Monitor, White/Green (Health and Beauty) I bought the Withings scale about a month ago and love it. Between it and the Withings app my iPad and iPhone, I keep tabs on my weight loss progress. It is easy and convenient. When I saw that Withings comed out with a blood pressure monitor, I asked my friends at MaxBorges if I could test a unit. I received the unit today and now tried it out. Here is my reactions:

What I like about the unit:

1. It’s super easy to set up! I pulled it out of the box, connected it to my iPad with the cable that’s attached to the monitor, and it was all prepared to go! Three minutes or less! Since I had configured my scale, it now recognized who I was and was prepared to go.

2. You can configure your blood pressure monitor for more than one person, so I set my husband up, too. A simple tap on user icon changes the user.

3. You can configure the monitor to take your blood pressure one time or take it three times and average the results. (I like this because I have a phobia to blood pressure cuffs and generally read high the 1st time.)

4. The results were correct in comparison to a blood pressure monitor I own that was suggested to me by my doctor.

5. My iPad and iPhone keeps track of my daily progress weight, fat, and lean with the Withings scale and blood pressure with the Withings monitor. You may be able to track results both in the morning and evening. The results may be read as a listing or as a graph.

6. It stores neatly in a small box.

What I did not like:

1. The results! I had not taken my blood pressure for a while and I discovered my blood pressure was high again.

2. I thought maybe it was inaccurate, so I had my husband take his , then checked it against the monitor my doctor suggested. I has been disappointed to see that the Withings was correct. ‘ Time to go back to eating healthier again.

If you are looking for an easy, convenient way to track your blood pressure and weight, I strongly recommend the Withings merchandise. It could not be easier!

5.0 out of five stars Will the wonders ever cease?, July 19, 2011
By David Beck “geekboy” (Garland, Tx USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Withings BP 800 Blood Pressure Monitor, White/Green (Health and Beauty) This is a great tool for anybody that wants (or needs) to keep track of ones blood pressure, but does not want the annoyance of recording the data. My BP was somewhat elevated, but didn’t alert my doctor. Till I tracked the data for a month then the issue became obvious that it wasn’t a temporary thing. I hated recording the data throughout that sampling time! Then I saw that the new cuff was available from Withings, and connected to my iPhone4, and could record the data for me!! (yeah!!) The cuff looks good and is comfy. The beautiful form follows great function! The iPhone connector winds up perfectly for the cuff flap to hold it in place when not used (great design!). Reviewing the data is a breeze on the graphs, and sending the data to my doctor via email is a part of cake (wonderful news since google health is going stomach up)!

5.0 out of five stars Great blood monitor, July 9, 2011
By perlbio (El Sobrante, CA USA) See all my reviews () This review is from: Withings BP 800 Blood Pressure Monitor, White/Green (Health and Beauty) I have the Withings scale and like it. I waited for this monitor for many months and bought it now once it was accepted by the FDA. Shipping from Withings was slow but the blood pressure monitor was great. I like the auto mode where the device automatically takes three measurements. This way the numbers are more correct. I also like the morning vs evening groups. It seems like the Withings folk know what they’re doing. The monitor also looks nice and matches with the upscale Apple image.
