It is sleek metal with glass. They state that the lithium battery lasts a long time, so we will see. It does take four rotations of the zeros’ to fly by before your weight is shown (to the half pound). It seems great and it is cheap. It is thick glass, if your weight shows more than you projected, you may be able to toss this sucker across the room and it will not break!
UPDATE: nearly five years and it’s still working on the same battery!

I could not be bothered 99 of the time as I usually expect merchandise to work and will generally give businesses a second chance.
That being said I gave Taylor three chances in six months with this scale and its complete junk. Then I see that buyer Reports made this their highest rated scale??? Wow.So I’m kinda mad.
Here’s my story. Bought this scale in the beginning of 2009, usually for a holiday / new years resolution to lose weight. The scale came outta the box DOA. Okay, that happens. Look for a way to replace it (I did not purchase it on Amazon).Call buyer service. Impolite and intrusive and wanted me to pay to return it to them. Obnoxious. So I do it.
Next one comes..weights are all over the place. In five minute span I gained 17 pounds? Call buyer service again. They tell me its most probably my technique with using the scale. So insulting. Bear using that one for about two weeks before to get totally irritated and demotivated with my weight loss plan. Am I losing weight or not? Who knew with that thing. Put up a big stink with buyer service and got a free new one.
The last one lasted about five months. Weighed correct for the most part but just died on me one day. Replaced the batteries. Nothing. Gave up on these guys and bought another brand.
If you believe that this is a good scale because many people at Taylor sent five perfect samples to buyer Reports then believe it. I do not. Quality control and buyer service are sorely missing.

It’s readout was steadily correct (no fluctuations of any kind).
I could recomend this unit to just about anybody.
It’s been my favorite so far.
